Visa 360 Cam
An app that uses 360-degree interactive video to put fans in the shoes of Olympic athletes
Ever dreamed of Olympic glory? Visa, a worldwide sponsor of the Winter Games, helps users get a step closer with its Visa 360 Cam app. With the help of Atmosphere Proximity, we used immersive video technology and a mobile-first strategy to create the mobile app. Users get to see what it's like to ski the giant slalom or score a hockey goal from a 360-degree, first-person perspective using their mobile device.
The Visa 360 Cam uses interactive, 360-degree video rendered to create a panoramic, first-person perspective of Olympic training. By tilting their mobile device or swiping its screen, users can rotate a full 360 degrees. By looking up, down, backward and sideways, they can see what the athletes see and hear what goes through their head as they train. And by toggling between the “face” and “follow” cams, users can change the point of view.
Launch date: January 25, 2014
A marriage of photography, standard video, 360-degree video and gyroscopic navigation makes the Visa 360 Cam a groundbreaking example of multiple creative and technological disciplines aligning in a singular vision. The app tapped into the hearts of Olympics fans all around the world, putting them in Olympians’ shoes (or skates) like never before. Just a few days after the opening ceremony, the Visa 360 Cam had become a featured app in the iTunes store, with more than 100,000 downloads worldwide.
